WiFi There are various flavors of WiFi. There are two different solutions to WiFi networks. You may have heard of the Telephone Company DSL Internet Card. This card usually supplied by the telephone company is designed to give you broadband access usually to a laptop or notebook. This card actually accesses the cell phone tower network and the telephone backbone across the country. Next is the LAN card usually referred to as 802.11x network. This network card is usually capable of about 100 feet of wireless communications to an Access Point or Hot Spot. To hear the manufacturer's side of the story, these cards are capable of 300 feet and full speed and possibly to 54 Megabites /second. Dont believe all the hype. A wireless Lan card is not capable of going through steel, wood, concrete and other materials at the same speed as going across an empty parking lot from a laptop to another laptop. A cabled network is far better when available. And to make matters worst, try adding encryption protocols to the signal. The degradation is incredible. So buyer beware. Need help with your WiFi network? Call us today and speak with one of our engineers.
